रक्षा मंत्रालय और सैन्य प्रशासन ने उन्हें कश्मीर में सेना के साथ सक्रिय ड्यूटी निभाने की अनुमति दे दी है। धौनी 31 जुलाई को कश्मीर में अपने पद को संभाल लेंगे। यह पहला मौका होगा जब धौनी सैन्य अधिकारियों की तरह कश्मीर में लगभग 15 दिन तक रहेंगे।
श्रीनगर में सेना के एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने बताया कि धौनी 2012 में भी कश्मीर में सात दिन तक सेना के साथ रहे थे। उस बीच उन्होंने कई जगहों पर जाकर सैन्यकर्मियों और अधिकारियों का मनोबल बढ़ाया था। वह उड़ी सेक्टर समेत उत्तरी कश्मीर में एलओसी के साथ सटे विभिन्न अग्रिम इलाकों में भी गए थे। धौनी 2017 में भी कश्मीर आए थे और सेना की ओर से आयोजित तमाम कार्यक्रमों में हिस्सा भी लिया था।
अधिकारी ने बताया कि यह पहला मौका होगा जब वह सैन्य अधिकारियों की तरह कश्मीर में लगभग 15 दिनों तक तैनात रहेंगे। उन्हें दक्षिण कश्मीर में किस जगह नियुक्त किया जाएगा, यह अभी तय नहीं है, लेकिन वह इन दिनों एक लेफ्टिनेंट कर्नल द्वारा अंजाम दी जाने वाली हर प्रकार की जिम्मेदारी को निभाएंगे। दक्षिण कश्मीर में जहां भी उनकी यूनिट का दस्ता पेट्रोलिंग के लिए जाएगा, धौनी उसका हिस्सा बनेंगे।
