नई दिल्ली। सुषमा स्वराज अंबाला छावनी सीट से 1977 और 1987 में विधायक चुनी गई थीं। वह 1977 में महज 25 साल की उम्र में विधायक बनीं और फिर जनता पार्टी की सरकार में कैबिनेट मंत्री बनीं। वह महज 27 साल की आयु में 1979 में जनता पार्टी की हरियाणा इकाई की अध्यक्ष बनीं।
हरियाणा में चौधरी देवीलाल सरकार में दो बार मंत्री रहीं सुषमा स्वराज ने 1985-86 के न्याय युद्ध आंदोलन में भी हिस्सेदारी की थी। यह न्याय युद्ध एसवाईएल नहर निर्माण को लेकर चौ. देवीलाल और डा. मंगलसेन की जोड़ी के नेतृत्व में चलाया गया था।
लोकसभा चुनाव में गृह सीट अंबाला के आरक्षित होने के कारण उन्होंने संसद में जाने के लिए करनाल से तीन बार चुनाव लड़ा, लेकिन सफल नहीं हो पाईं। वर्ष 1984 में करनाल लोकसभा सीट से हार मिलने के बाद सुषमा ने 1987 में अंबाला छावनी विधानसभा सीट से चुनाव लड़ा और जीत हासिल की।
भाजपा ने उन्हें 1990 में राज्य सभा की सदस्य बनाकर संसद भेज दिया। उनके विधायक पद से इस्तीफा देने के बाद अनिल विज को चुनाव मैदान में उतारा गया। वर्ष 1996 तक राज्यसभा सदस्य रहने के दौरान सुषमा स्वराज देश के सियासी पटल पर छा गईं। वह दक्षिण दिल्ली से चुनाव जीतकर सांसद बनीं। 13 दिन और 13 महीने की वाजपेयी सरकार में मंत्री रहीं। लाल कृष्ण आडवाणी उन्हें केंद्र की राजनीति में लाए थे।
वर्ष 1996 में सुषमा स्वराज को अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी की सरकार में सूचना एवं प्रसारण मंत्री बनाया गया। यह पहला मौका था जब सुषमा को केंद्र में मंत्री पद मिला। हालांकि यह सरकार 13 दिन ही चल सकी।
इसके बाद 1998 में फिर से लोकसभा चुनाव हुए और केंद्र में एनडीए सत्ता में आया। इस बार सुषमा स्वराज मंत्री बनीं और पहले के मुकाबले दो मंत्रालयों की कमान सौंपी गई। इस सरकार में उनको सूचना एवं प्रसारण के अलावा दूरसंचार मंत्रालय की भी जिम्मेदारी दी गई। यह सरकार भी 13 महीने चल पाई।
मोदी सरकार के पहले कार्यकाल के दौरान विदेश मंत्री के तौर पर उनका कार्यकाल शानदार रहा। उनके काम ने पूरी दुनियां में उनकी पहिचान बनायी।
